Semen Analysis
Men are not immediately infertile after a vasectomy. There can be sperm in the semen for many months (rarely up to 18 months). You must continue to use alternative contraception until you have at least one semen analysis showing no more live (motile) sperm.
You will be provided with a pathology request form for a semen analysis and this should be performed three months after your vasectomy.

In Warragul, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE for semen samples to be delivered to the Dorevitch Pathology collection centre located at West Gippsland Hospital, Monday through Friday between 11:00 and 11:30AM or 12:30 and 1PM. This changes from time to time with no notice given to us at Gippsnip regarding such changes. Please contact Dorevitch for information.
We either send a message via Hotdoc or telephone you with your result. Results are also available via the My Health Gov app on your smart device or My Health Record via MyGov with your desktop computer.
Please call the clinic if you have not been contacted after one week of doing your analysis.
