Semen Analysis

Men are not immediately infertile after a vasectomy. There can be sperm in the semen for many months (rarely up to 18 months). You must continue to use alternative contraception until you have at least one semen analysis showing no more live (motile) sperm.

You will be provided with a pathology request form for a semen analysis and this should be performed three months after your vasectomy.

In Warragul, semen samples may be delivered to the Dorevitch Pathology collection centre located at West Gippsland Hospital, Monday through Friday before 10:30AM. This may change from time to time and will be different from centre to centre. Please contact Dorevitch Pathology on 03 9244 0444 for the most up to date information on when to drop off your sample.

We will ring you to discuss the result or send a message via Hotdoc with your result.

Please call the clinic if you have not been contacted after one week of doing your analysis.
