Men are not immediately infertile after a vasectomy. There can be sperm in the semen for many months (rarely up to 18 months). You must continue to use alternative contraception until you have at least one semen analysis showing no more live (motile) sperm. You will be provided with a pathology request form for a semen analysis and this should be performed three months after your vasectomy.
In Warragul, semen samples need to be delivered to the Dorevitch Pathology collection centre located at West Gippsland Hospital by 9am Monday to Friday.
We will ring you with your result. Please call the clinic if you have not been contacted after one week of doing your test.Dorevitch Pathology Instruction Sheet
